Our base is in northern Spain, at a campsite in the village of Gorliz near Bilbao. Click here to find our location on Google Maps. The campsite and pension accommodation are located in the picturesque bay of Plenzia / Gorliz, two villages behind the bay. All the accommodation is about 10 minutes walking distance from the beautiful beach, and the quaint harbour. Plentzia is connected to the Metro system which takes you directly to the centre of Bilbao in 45 minutes, although bars, restaurants and supermarkets are available locally. There are a host of other activities for you to try including coastal hiking, biking, snorkelling, sea canoeing, swimming, skateboarding, inline skating and the local Basque game, pelota. There is a natural park overlooking the bay where barbequing facilities are available.
The area around Bilbao in northern Spain – also called the Bay of Biscay – offers fantastic surfing conditions from May to November. It offers numerous beach breaks suitable for beginners through to world-class surfing conditions like those offered around Mundaka where the World Surfing Championships were held. With such a choice, suitable surf spots can be found to suit all wind and wave conditions.

Northern Spain offers a pleasant spring and a warm summer, followed by a dry autumn. The best surfing is to be found in summer and especially autumn as warm southerly offshore winds create great waves.
